This theater that was recently converted from an existing 15' x 23' living room is fully automated.
Like a perfectly staged play, at the touch of a button, the lights come on and dim, the motorized window shades come down, the music starts, the curtains open, and the show begins.
The front of the theater was designed to resemble a stage, with a 7' Stewart fixed screen, positioned above and flanked by a 20" Proton color monitor, main speaker and subwoofer on both sides. The center channel speaker was built in to the top step of the stage, and the space below the subwoofer was utilized for storage of CDs, DVDs and video tapes. The stage curtain opens and closes into a wall pocket.
The seven seats, positioned in two rows in the center of the theater, were custom-made using ultrasuede and leather, and had cup holders and a telephone built into their arm rests. The entire perimeter of the theater is fiberglass insulated, with the addition of the sound board panels and 1" acoustical fiberglass panels. Windows in the theater were designed with a motorized blackout shade and were upholstered in the same acoustical fabric to blend with the surrounding wall finish.
A cavity in the 9-foot ceiling completely conceals the Runco projector. A handheld color touch screen, a single wall lighting panel and an automated control panel with different "mood" presets controls cove lighting, low voltage ceiling lighting and custom made stainless steel wall sconces.
To facilitate illumination and access, A/V equipment was placed next to one of the theater's rear entrances, while the bar faced the other.
A Durkan rug, used as a floor covering, pulls together the colors of the walls, seats and cabinetry.
