More than a Facelift

Pictures speak better than words, and this happens to be just the right case to prove the point. The before and after photographs are the only evidence that this house had a much different, bland appearance at one time. After living in the house for 14 years and gradually remodeling its interior, the husband and wife had finally decided it was time to address the Front, as well as the Landscaping and Lighting Design.

The painted cedar shakes had to come off. After spending several days looking for the right choice of a brick, decision was made to use a multi-colored type consisting of 3 different shades. This type of a brick gave the house a vibrant, rich color appearance, which was even further reinforced by the use a brick paver on their driveway. The following architectural design elements were used in the transformation process:

  • Corner stucco quoins.
  • Dentil house molding.
  • Secondary smaller stucco gable above the entranceway, supported by four tapered fluted columns, plus additional column @ other end.
  • New mahogany doors and mahogany transom panel with the matching exterior and interior trim.
  • New large gable @ left of the entrance.
  • New windows with traditional grilles.
  • (2) New attic windows, elliptical and rectangular.
  • Window shutters.

It is, indeed, hard to believe that the before and after photographs represent the same house. But they doÖ Just like in any other renovation project, a final outcome greatly depends on the design decisions, the right selection of building materials and a flawless job execution.
