One may observe an interesting phenomenon in almost every split ranch house, a single room that no one wants to go toÖ it seems that everyone wants to bypass the intermediate level room, as if reminding themselves that there is absolutely nothing to do in there. Strange but true, this room seems to have no purpose for its existence, no redeeming value.
Well, here is a great example of how an "ugly duckling" of a room may become an overnight sensation, a true house gem. Case in point: a family room for everyone to enjoy, that has every amenity to please the most demanding guest, as well as provide years of relaxing comfort for its master.
First and foremost, there must be a payback at the end in order for anyone to make an effort and walk up half a flight of steps in to a room, which seems to be set apart from the rest of the house. In this case it is an entertainment area, which combines both, a comfortable plush seating for (8) persons, plus a casual bar counter sitting for (3) more persons. By situating the bar and the upholstery back-to-back, all guests may simultaneously enjoy the crackling sounds and dancing flames of a wood burning fireplace and a large screen TV directly opposite the bar and a sofa. The wood wall paneling does a great job joining seamlessly the bar and the entertainment areas for a flawless appearance. A combination of (2) chandeliers, (4) wall sconces, table lamps and high hats may create an atmosphere of brightly illuminated party room or a serene appearance of a home library, in an instant.
This project does prove a simple point: in order for any room to complement the rest of the house, there must be a happy marriage of purpose and appearance. If one of these qualities is missing, the effort will be in vain.
