An Overnight Success Story

This high ranch was just another mediocre house on the block, until the owners decided that it's time to move forward, and transformed it into one of the most unusual and unexpected facelifts around.

The design approach was quite simple: take a box, add a few decorative, modern elements to it, change the front doors assembly, then add some modern hardware and sandblasting on the glass, new railing and stoop, apply stucco on the front of the house, andÖsuddenly the house has a whole new character and a nickname "the Railing House". Actually, things are easier said than done, and this case was no exception. The following steps were taken to transform the appearance of the house:

  1. Taller windows above the garage, and a new bay window on the opposite side.
  2. New double doors and a large transom window with a beautiful geometrical sandblasted design, which flows from one glass pane into another.
  3. Two angular buttresses, intercepted by two brushed aluminum 12" round columns @ Front Entranceway.
  4. New brick stoop with a combination of steps and platforms, and in-ground planters on both sides.
  5. New, custom-made "Y" stainless steel handles @ front doors, to complement the look of the wall buttresses.
  6. New railing @ stoop with the same "Y" detail as the door handles.
  7. New stucco finish @ front
  8. New driveway and landscaping, plus landscape lighting.

This house is known around the neighborhood as "the Railing House", because of the striking geometrical element in the railing design. This was a simple design job with a very successful ending.
