"I always wanted to have a kitchen island, but the kitchen wasn't wide enough"- said the owner of this residence on the North Shore of Long Island. Well, this request set off a chain of events, which followed to the expansion of the existing Kitchen, with the renovation of the Powder Room, and the addition of the Mudroom. Among other requests, the wish list had consisted of a large Pantry, a peninsula for (3) stools, a vegetable sink, a warming drawer and a wine cooler, a wall oven, a 4 ft. Refrigerator, etc.
The new Kitchen had become 4 ft. wider, and this allowed for an unusual wrap-around plan, which had plenty of a counter top space, lots of storage and all major appliances strategically located within reach. The island became a focal point of the Kitchen, with its ceiling-hung "Best" hood and a "Viking" cook top. A variety of lighting fixtures had been used to flood the Kitchen in light (not having enough light had been a concern from the beginning of the project). The adjustable halogen "pipe" ceiling lights, the halogen ceiling pendants, and the under counter halogen lights controlled by the electronic dimmers, had accomplished this task with ease.
