A Touch of Style

After years of contemplating to re-do their original kitchen, the owners of this residence had made a final commitment to the job, adding a few interesting requirements to their wish list. The new kitchen had to be spacious, with more cabinetry and storage than the original one, have a view in front of the sink area, plus have a cathedral ceiling. In order to fulfill these requirements, the kitchen had to be extended 10 feet. Because of the fact that there was no second story above the existing structure, both, the new and existing ceiling line ended up with an unusual profile. A section of the original remaining flat ceiling was removed and a tray ceiling was created, giving the "old" a look of "new", plus the extended area of the kitchen received a gable roof. All of this was accomplished without any extra expense of redoing the original roof or replacing the header. The extended area of this kitchen was designed for a breakfast table, plus the wall oven and TV cabinet, and the rest of the new cabinetry remained in the original location. The sink and the kitchen peninsula were designed to align with the end of the flat ceiling, facing the breakfast table and a pair of new French patio doors.

All custom cabinetry was made of maple, with a slight highlight of green. The "Imperial Green" granite was used in several areas; on the counter tops, behind the cook top area with a sandblasted design, and as a decorative sandblasted border along the back splash. Tumble marble was chosen as a field tile.

This kitchen offers no compromise. Every feature, which the Owners had ever dreamed of, had found its place in this warm and stylish "culinary heaven".
